mLab Team to Present Armenia at Imagine Cup World Finals in Australia

Make your mobile phone a health wizard advising you on the quality of water you are about to consume. This is the statement that won a champion’s title for mLab Regional Mobile Application Laboratory for ECA in Imagine Cup Armenia 2012 contest.

 

The mLab team developed an mobile application which, through a tiny “water quality tester” attachable to the mobile phone, checks the quality of drinking water and warns consumers against using water with a high level of health hazard. To add consistency to this innovative approach, the application allows retrieve statistical data on the level of water pollution and makes the data available to other users worldwide, thus pushing for higher water quality control and inspection. 

 

A national winner among around 30 competing teams, mLab ECA will now take its unprecedented mobile application to Sydney, Australia, to represent Armenia at Imagine Cup 2012 World Finals. This is the largest annual technology contest in the world focused around Microsoft technology where representatives of over 180 countries and regions will compete for the title of inventing the most innovative approach to tackle global problems such as poverty, diseases, pollution and hunger. 

 

The victory of mLab is no surprise for many. A project of the World bank, infoDev and Nokia, and Enterprise Incubator Foundation, mLab ECA was established in November 2011, and within months has become an hub of innovation and creativity for talented technology youth in Armenia by providing talent cultivation, business incubation and professional training. Many groups of young developers and designers working in mLab facilities are a source of numerous innovative applications and products regularly brought to local and international markets. Imagine Cup victory is yet another acknowledgement of the success of this ambitious and talented team.
