m2Work Event Press Release

29.03.2012

On March 17, 2012 Enterprise Incubator Foundation's (EIF) mLab ECA held a promotion workshop for Mobile Microwork International contest “m2Work” at Armenia Marriott Hotel Yerevan.

This event brought together more than 50 students and young professionals from various educational institutions and industries to engage in a global competition by brainstorming and presenting interesting out-of-the box mobile microwork ideas. EIF specialists presented examples of successful microwork ideas and helped participants formulate their own ideas.  More than 200 ideas were formulated and submitted; the participants who submitted the most ideas received Nokia smartphones. The submitted ideas will be judged and winners will be announced in April, receiving monetary prize of up to 20.000 USD.

On March 23rd, international jury announced that one of these submissions, a distributed reforestation project called “MicroForester,” (by Alexander Shakaryan) secured the first runner-up spot with its innovative approach to green restoration, its detailed model for microworker participation, and its clear, low-cost impact on both sustainable development and the environment.

Besides in a first for the m2Work challenge, two submissions tied for the second runner-up spot. “Public Sentiment Map,” the work of a Kenyan entrepreneur, provides a thorough outline of microwork-based information gathering services for clients such as election-monitoring agencies, lawmaking organisms, and vital resource allocators. “Personalized Greetings and Love Letters Writer” (by Hovhannes Hambardzumyan) would hire semiskilled microworkers to write detail-rich, moving notes on behalf of customers.

While the challenge has named all four spot-prize winners, it will continue to accept entries for its $20,000 Grand Prize until the deadline on April 2.
